Hi vAdmins,

Broadcom recently unveiled two new VCP exams in collaboration with VMware, which were introduced at VMware Explore. Allow me to share my firsthand experience with these exams.

In this blog post we only focus on the exam (2V0-12.24) VMware vSphere Foundation Administrator 5.2 exam.

Certification details:

The VMware Certified Professional – VMware vSphere Foundation Administrator (VCP-VVF Admin) 2024 certification validates the skills required to deploy, manage, and support private cloud environments built on VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF). This certification is designed for IT professionals expanding from traditional infrastructure roles to cloud administration. Candidates for this certification includes professionals responsible for implementing and maintaining VVF infrastructure, ensuring it meets organizational service level objectives for availability, performance, and security. By achieving this certification, professionals demonstrate their ability to effectively operate VVF environments.

Certification Paths:

There has recently been a new exam policy that also makes it possible to take this VCP test without the pre-requirement of taking a course in advance or already being VCP certified.

It is recommended to gain knowledge of VMware vSphere Foundation and you can supplement this with several training programs including the official training  “VMware Cloud Foundation: Deploy, Manage, Configure” or the trainings based on specific VMware products below:

VMware vSphere: Advanced Administration [V8]

VMware vSphere: Fast Track [V8]

VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V8]

VMware vSphere: Troubleshooting [V8]

VMware vSAN: Install, Configure, Manage [V8]

VMware vRealize Operations: Advanced Use Cases [v8.x] – On Demand

VMware vRealize Operations: Install, Configure, Manage [V8.6]

*At the time of writing this blog, the 5.2 On-demand version is not yet available.

For those who are VCF customers or Broadcom Advantage Partners, kindly access Learning@Broadcom through the Broadcom Support Portal. If you are not a VCF Customer or Partner, please reach out to one of our VCF Authorized Learning Partners for VCF training inquiries.

To get certified you (only) need to pass the exam VMware vSphere Foundation 5.2 Administrator exam (2V0-12.24)

For tips how to schedule, see my previous post ” Certification Manager 2.0 the new learning portal from VMware by Broadcom“.

Minimal Qualified Candidate:

The candidate can install, configure, manage, and perform basic troubleshooting of the VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF) solution but occasionally needs to research topics or request assistance. The candidate should have at least six months or more of experience working with the VVF solution and all its components. The candidate should have one to two years or more of experience working in IT. The candidate is knowledgeable of the features, functions, and architectures of all VVF components, which include the following: VMware vSphere Plus (which includes vCenter Standard, ESXi, vSphere with Tanzu), vSAN, Aria Operations, Aria Operations for Logs, Aria Suite Lifecycle. The candidate may occasionally need to research some topics related to the aforementioned components or request assistance. The candidate has advanced level experience working with vSphere and its command line but occasionally needs to research topics or request assistance. The candidate may need to research some VVF related topics. The candidate possesses most of the knowledge shown in the exam sections (blueprint).

Preparation and exam experience:

Unfortunately, the suggested training corresponding to VCF/VVF version 5.2 was not available during the preparation period for me. To prepare adequately, I referred to the exam guide and concentrated primarily on the following topics:

Section 1 – IT Architectures, Technologies, Standards
Section 2 – VMware by Broadcom Solution
Section 3 – Plan and Design the VMware by Broadcom Solution
Section 4 – Install, Configure, Administrate the VMware by Broadcom Solution

Section 5 – Troubleshoot and Optimize the VMware by Broadcom Solution

In recent years I have gained quite a lot of practical experience with VMware vSphere and Aria Suite. I expect that exam candidates are also familiar with these products and therefore I recommend mainly focusing on section 4 and section 5.

In case you don’t not have access to a VVF environment or a LAB environment, there are excellent alternatives available. VMware Hands-on LABS offer you the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of VMware vSphere/vSAN and Aria Suite. See the exam guide for specific focus areas!

Additional tips from my side, based on previous exam experience.

Preparation essentials worth considering

it’s essential to focus on several key areas. These include VMware vSphere, VMware vSAN (Cluster and storage configuration and maintenance), VMware vCenter (LCM, Tanzu, VMware content library) and Aria Suite (main capabilities, and optimizing your datacenter’s use cases).

Experience plays a vital role too. If you excel in troubleshooting, the drag and drop questions will certainly contribute in gathering essential points 😉

My Exam Experience

I have just finished this test with success and observed that it has fewer questions than the VCP VCF administration exam, specifically only 55. The majority were multiple-choice questions with a section dedicated to drag-and-drop format. This exam primarily assesses proficiency in an SDDC environment of medium scale. VVF’s key advantage lies in its ability to effectively support SDDC setups, leveraging tools from the VMware Aria Suite. The exam aligns closely with the provided guide, focusing on VMware vSphere knowledge, vSphere configuration (alongside VMware Aria), and LCM concepts including basic troubleshooting. The drag-and-drop queastions are awesome! My compliments to the SME team. Particularly engaging as it required matching VMware Solutions with corresponding actions, allowing candidates to show to their VMare VVF productknowledge.

Suggestion: To successfully tackle this test, it is advisable to allocate sufficient time, given its relatively fewer questions in comparison to other VCP exams. It is recommended to meticulously examine each question. When unsure, you can utilize your expertise and practical skills to eliminate improbable choices in the multiple-choice section.

Final thoughts

The recent streamlining of the VMware by Broadcom portfolio is reshaping the utilization of this technology within our data centers. The alignment of training and certifications with the VVF and VCF portfolio is indeed a welcome development.

I trust that this blog post has ignited a spark within you to kick off your journey towards achieving the newest VCP VVF certification from VMware by Broadcom. Enjoy the preparation process and may you achieve great success in earning your badge!
